A Complete Look at the Neymar x Jordan Collection

Over the past few days and weeks, we have been previewing the upcoming Neymar x Jordan Collection. During that time we spotted both the Air Jordan 5 Retro Low and Hypervenom II Phantom.

Today, Jordan Brand has made the official announcement with word of a third shoe in the range, the HypervenomX Proximo. In addition to the third shoe, Jordan Brand in collaboration with Nike Football/Soccer has created a ball, cap, t-shirt, jacket and jersey.

The collaboration sees a continued synergistic approach between Jordan Brand and Nike’s performance departments. In the recent past, Jordan Brand connected with Nike Tennis to transform the Zoom Vapor 9 Tour with Air Jordan 3 styling. With Nike SB, the Jordan Brand connection has been more active with the recent release of the Jumpman adorned P-Rod 9 Elite and the recent series of Nike SB Air Jordan 1 drops from Lance Mountain and Craig Stecyk.

The collaboration is brand new territory for Jordan Brand as it is the first time that the Jumpman has been featured on a football boot. The origin of the collection is said to be from the mutual respect that both athletes share for each other. in Neymar’s words…

Michael Jordan set the standard for greatness. He’s an incredible competitor and a champion. I’ve always admired him, so to collaborate with him and have his icon on my boots means a great deal to me.

Michael Jordan sees Neymar as sharing some of his own qualities…

I’m excited that Neymar and the Jordan Brand are working together. I’m a fan of his creativity, style and passion for the game of soccer. He’s a special player and I look forward to this collaboration.

Fueling the collection is an integration of Jordan and Neymar branding on all of the pieces from the logos to the numbers. Jordan Brand’s signature cement print unifies the footwear while the black/red and grey are the three key colors used on the range.

Nike Football Sr. Design Director, Nathan VanHook explains the starting point from translating the Air Jordan V to the Hypervenom…

The Jordan V is very iconic and has the fighter jet shark teeth on the front, and the Hypervenom II that Neymar Jr. wears has an almost modernized version of that feature, so we took those elements and put them together.

Beyond the classic use of prints, reflective elements and colors, the collection is defined in the details…

Jordan’s iconic cement print is recreated on the soleplate of the Hypervenom, along with the Jumpan logo underfoot. The initials of Neymar Jr.’s son (“DL”) appear on the laces, as does the icon of the Brasil flag.

Neymar Jr.’s Brasil number, 10, appears on the lateral side of the left boot and per Neymar Jr.’s request, the number 23 is on the right boot paying homage to Jordan. Both numbers appear in the respective font of the jerseys worn by the athletes. The sockliner and packaging feature a lock-up of Jordan and Neymar’s logos, while the boot heel features the Jumpman exclusively.

The collection is now live on the Nike Football App with wider availability coming on Friday, the 3rd of June through Nike.com and Nike/Jordan dealers.

Neymar has already been spotted in the Air Jordan 5 Retro on the baseball diamond. As Neymar is skipping the Copa América Centenario, you will have to wait until the Olympics in Rio to see him lace up in the Hypervenom II Phantom NJR 1 X JORDAN for competition.
