The 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival will serve as the culmination of this summer’s VS tournaments that occurred in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City and Toronto. But more than just a showcase of the best young talent, the 2023 Nike World Basketball Festival is a celebration of the cultural influence that only basketball has.
Hosted at Lincoln Center, an iconic location for movement and cultural expression, the festival will bring the best of basketball home to New York City, the epicenter of the game’s cultural legacy.
Embedded in Nike’s legacy across apparel, lifestyle and performance, a series of installations in adjoining Damrosch Park will showcase how the game has influenced innovation and design for decades. Classic era-defining silhouettes and other artifacts from the Nike archives will be showcased to highlight key moments in Nike Basketball. The installation is also accompanied by a first look at Nike Basketball’s upcoming holiday collection, on display here.

Nike Air Force 1 ’07
Since 1982, the AF1 has grown from a basketball must-have to a style necessity. After finding itself as a cultural touchstone in the 90s, the shoe has grown into one of the most recognizable sneakers of all-time, popularized by collaborations in the worlds of both hip-hip and high fashion. With over 2000 iterations of this staple, its impact on culture simply cannot be denied.

Nike Dunk Low
From on-court crossovers to crossover appeal, perhaps no shoe has made more of a leap than the Dunk. Nike Air Force Low x Terror Squad
In 2003, New York City icon Fat Joe was the mastermind behind what was set to be the greatest game of streetball ever played. Set to take place at the legendary Rucker Park, several of the world’s best ballers had agreed to lace up to represent different hip-hop collectives before a citywide blackout forced a cancellation. “The Greatest Game Never Played” inspired these Air Force 1s, which have been sitting on ice for decades. Embroidered initials on the heel rep Terror Squad, honoring a cultural moment at the intersection of Hip-Hop and sport.

Nike Air Foamposite 1
Penny Hardaway was the prototype for the next century of basketball. It’s only fitting that this iconic kick did the same: blending high-tech materials with a high-performance shape, the Air Foamposite 1s set a standard for greatness that has rarely been approached since. Its eye-catching look made it a staple for off-court style with Penny’s classic logo is a reminder of incomparable 90s style.
