It’s always exciting to see the Black History Month roll-out from major brands. We can almost always expect some bright, beautiful colours and skillful story-telling. The adidas Dame 5 “Black History Month” is a fantastic example of this.

Functionally, it’s an improvement on the Dame 4. The sole is where the most evident change is at. The outsole comes with a herringbone pattern – which is admittedly a standard for adidas hoops shoes. However, the midsole is vastly improved thanks to what seems like even more Bounce cushioning. Particularly, there’s a more even distribution from heel to forefoot.

As for the visuals, it’s in an expressive scheme that shouts out Harlem imagery and historic roots. For this aesthetic, the Black base serves as a the perfect canvas for all of the bold splashes of colour.
